Well, there is no set timeline to how long it takes a person to quit smoking. Some smokers find it relatively easy to quit cold turkey, and others just find it so difficult to relinquish that last cigarette stick.
Probably the hardest part of smoking is subduing the physical craving to smoke a cigarette, which is all due to the nicotine receptors in your brain. These receptors, which first developed when you began to smoke, want a cigarette to ensure their survival. This craving alone adds at least 3 months to the time a smoker would have to invest in to quit smoking. This is especially true if they use a nicotine patch or other aid. There are times, though, when the need for a cigarette will get less after just a few days. And for some people, it may have completely vanished after just two to four weeks.
Aside from mere nicotine addiction, a lot of smokers find it equally difficult to let go of their personal and social smoking habits. For example, many smokers smoke at a bar when they are out with their friends. If these people are trying to quit, they will find it extremely hard to resist smoking because of their ingrained habit to smoke in these environments. The solution, therefore, is to stay away from these environments. It also helps a lot to stay away from cigarettes and other tobacco products.
How long does it take to quit smoking? Well, different people use different approaches to quitting. And different people have the same amount of determination to quit. Therefore, the answer to this question is that quitting smoking really varies from one person to another.
